The Hirago Screening Process
Less than 7% of candidates that apply to us make it through the below process:
Cognitive Ability Test
The first step in Hirago’s screening process is to test candidates on their cognitive abilities; we only accept candidates that score well above average.
There is a very strong correlation between high cognitive ability and the ability to perform well on the job.
Profile, Personality & Culture
We provide companies with candidates that match the profile that they are looking for; for example, if a company wants a candidate that is between 23 and 35 years of age, with no kids, then we can provide this.
We make each candidate complete an industry respected personality test.
We only match candidates with companies if their personality test results are compatible with the company’s core values profile.
We conduct a video recorded interview with each candidate.
We only accept candidates that display the following:

- High energy
- Exceptional customer service
- Willingness to work hard
Technical Exam & Certifications
Each candidate must pass our technical exam; we have specific exams for each trade type (HVAC, electrical & plumbing); our exams were created by top industry professionals to ensure that they are up-to-date and relevant.
We also verify that each candidate has all the required licenses and certifications.
Employment History and References
We verify that all employment history of each candidate is accurate.
We make sure that each candidate has a work history of being loyal to previous companies; we do not accept candidates that change employer every year.
We also conduct extensive reference checks by calling previous employers; we do this ourselves, we do not outsource this.
Criminal, Drug & Motor Checks
We then conduct extensive background checks on each candidate to find out if there is a history of drug, criminal or motor vehicle accidents.
We only accept candidates that have a clean record.
